Ida Bagus Dwi Kusuma Sanjaya Karang: A Young Balinese Puppet Master
Ida Bagus Dwi Kusuma Sanjaya Karang, affectionately known as Gusdwi, is a young and talented puppet master from the village of Sanur, Denpasar, Bali.
Born on October 9th, 2013, Gusdwi is the second child of the late Ida Bagus Rai Weda and Ida Ayu Putu Raka Susani, both hoteliers.
Gusdwi's journey into the art of Wayang began in 2020, at the tender age of seven. Under the mentorship of the esteemed senior puppet master Made Murawan, he has been rigorously trained in the intricate and revered craft of Balinese puppet mastery.
This dedication has allowed him to develop a deep understanding and proficiency in the traditional art form.Gusdwi has showcased his talents in various sacred ceremonies across Gianyar, Tabanan, and Denpasar, performing the sacred story of Sudha Bumi (the purification of the universe).
His performances have not only captivated audiences but also contributed to the preservation and dissemination of Balinese cultural heritage.
In addition to his puppet mastery, Gusdwi is an enthusiastic learner of other Balinese and Hindu cultural arts. He has immersed himself in the study of Balinese letter-writing, Gamelan and Rindik playing, and traditional Balinese dances, reflecting his broad interest and commitment to his cultural roots.
Currently, Gusdwi is a fifth-grade student at Mahardika Elementary School in Denpasar, where he continues to balance his academic pursuits with his passion for Balinese arts. His journey is a testament to the rich cultural heritage of Bali and the enduring legacy of traditional arts in the modern world.

Sudha Bumi
The "Sudha Bumi" act centers on the purification of the universe through the Panca Yadnya ritual, which involves five holy offerings made with utmost sincerity. The narrative unfolds through a profound conversation among significant characters, including Yudistira, Krishna, Duryodhana, Lord Shiva, and the comic figures Merdah, Tualen, Sangut, and Delem.
The Conversation
*Yudistira* begins the discussion, expressing his concern over the chaos and imbalance in the universe. He highlights the necessity of the Panca Yadnya to restore harmony and peace. Yudistira’s wisdom and deep understanding of dharma underscore the importance of performing the rituals with sincerity
*Krishna* supports Yudistira's call for the Panca Yadnya, explaining the spiritual significance of each offering. He emphasizes that these rituals are not merely ceremonial but essential acts of devotion and sacrifice that align humans with the divine order. Krishna's divine insight and guidance provide a comprehensive understanding of the Panca Yadnya.
*Duryodhana*, initially skeptical, questions the efficacy of the rituals. He doubts that mere offerings can rectify the extensive turmoil. However, through Krishna's persuasive arguments and Yudistira’s unwavering conviction, Duryodhana begins to understand the deeper spiritual implications and agrees to participate.
*Lord Shiva* appears to bless the assembly and affirm the importance of the Panca Yadnya. He explains that these rituals are a means to purify the universe and restore balance. Lord Shiva’s divine presence and authority reassure everyone of the significance and effectiveness of their efforts
*Merdah, Tualen, Sangut, and Delem* add a lighter yet insightful dimension to the act. Through their humorous exchanges and banter, they reflect on the practical aspects of the rituals and the importance of sincerity in performing them. Their comic relief provides a balanced narrative while reinforcing the central theme of the act.The characters, through their collective effort and sincere offerings, demonstrate the power of devotion and the timeless relevance of these sacred rituals in maintaining cosmic balance
